Basic rules and elements

Ultimate is played on a grass field 100m long with two endzones. A team consists of 7 players. There is a Mens Divison, a Womens divison as well as a Mixed division. A team scores a point by catching the disk in the opponent’s endzone. The player who catches the disc must stop running while in possession of the disc, but may pivot and attempt a pass to any teammate on the field. They are trying to get open by making quick and agile changes of direction – a cut. The goal of the defending team is to stop the disc from reaching their endzone by forcing a turnover. That happens a with a dropped pass, an interception, a pass out of bounds, or when a player is caught holding the disc for more than ten seconds. The game is played for 75 minutes with a halftime or when one of the teams scores 15 points. Although these rules change from tournament to tournament. Ultimate is a non-contact sport, which means no deliberate contact with an opponent is allowed. Ultimate is also self-oficiated, meaning there are no referees. This encourages fair play and respect towards the opponent and the players themselves.”
